Dr. T. Powers Griffin Jr. joined his father in practice after receiving his doctorate from the Southern College of Optometry in 1978. “Dr. Powers” grew up in San Clemente and went on to do his undergraduate work at the University of Santa Clara. In addition to his studies while at Santa Clara, he had the good fortune to row for the college crew team competing throughout the United States and the United Kingdom.

“Dr. Powers” has been active in the Laguna Niguel Lions Club since 1980, having served as president in 1984–1985 and 2005–2006. He enjoys donating his free time to local school vision screenings and health fairs and speaking to groups about optometry and eye health.

“Dr. Powers” has published articles in optometric journals related to the work the Griffin Optometric Group has done in the contact lens field. He has been an invited speaker to professional groups of optometrists and ophthalmologists about current contact lens developments, including colored contacts, contacts for astigmatism, and bifocal lenses. In 2001, “Dr. Powers” became part of a select group of optometrists to pass a rigorous entrance exam into the American Academy of Optometry. The achievement signifies his dedication to furthering his education in optometric science.

“Dr. Powers” and his wife live in Laguna Niguel. They are very proud of their 2 daughters, who are social workers, and their son, who teaches high school science in San Diego. During his spare time, he enjoys traveling, playing golf, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Dr. Brad Callister, O.D. received his doctorate in optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in 2017. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in visual arts where he gained a unique appreciation for the visual experience. “Dr. Brad” completed two externship programs; first in primary care at a private practice in Encinitas and then at a refractive surgical center in La Jolla specializing in LASIK and cataract extraction surgeries. Dr. Brad is passionate about all things vision, and he strives to help all his patients see well, feel good, and look great.

Dr. Brad and his wife, Allie, are the proud parents of three fun and energetic children. When not examining eyes Dr. Brad can usually be found playing with his kids at the park, pool or beach.

Dr. Beverly Miller, O.D. did her undergraduate work at Syracuse University, New York, and graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1975. Dr. Miller believes that her career in optometry is a lifetime commitment to learning. With that as her goal, she has been training ever since to provide her patients with excellent eye care. Dr. Miller was named Optometrist of the Year by the American Optometric Association in 2001. She took National Boards for the second time in her career in 2005 to obtain her California Optometry License. In 2011, Dr. Miller trained to become a Diplomat of the American Board of Optometry.

After 37 years of private practice in Maryland, Dr. Miller and her husband moved to California to be near their children and grandchildren. Since October 2012, Dr. Miller has been providing both general and specialty optometric care to the wonderful patients of the Griffin Optometric Group. She is a member of both the California and American Optometric Associations, and proudly supports Kids Vision for Life, the Illumination Foundation, Salus University (Pennsylvania College of Optometry), and the Lions Club with in-kind and monetary donations.

Dr. Carlin Tran is a graduate of Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry in Pomona, California. She grew up in Orange County and received her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. She later pursued her Regulatory Affairs & Compliance for Pharmaceuticals certificate, also at the UCI campus.

Dr. Tran has completed externships in different modes of practice, including Neuro—Optometry, Vision Therapy, Indian Health Services, and community health hospital. Dr. Tran is licensed in the use of diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceutical agents and is certified by the National Board of Optometry in the treatment and management of ocular disease. Dr. Tran is fluent in English and has basic knowledge of Spanish and Vietnamese. She has a strong passion for serving the community where she grew up. In her spare time, Dr. Tran loves traveling, dabbling in film photography, and playing with her family’s dog, Chopper.

Joseph Ridenour graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in History and minors in Marketing and Finance. He received his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. His clinical training at the Illinois Eye Institute and Jesse Brown VA Hospital included pediatrics, contact lenses, and ocular disease.

Dr. Ridenour is licensed to practice full optometric care in California with a particular interest in contact lenses and retinal pathologies. He is a proud Eagle Scout and volunteers with the Boy Scouts. On the weekends, Dr. Ridenour can be found working on his muscle cars and enjoying the beach. He also speaks optometric Spanish.
